YBR Programme Mentoring launched in Vladivostok

The meetings of YBR Supervisory Board and Selection Panel were held on the 29th of June in Vladivostok city hall, and first mentor seminars followed on the 30th of June. YBR performance in Vladivostok, as of July 2011: 7 business projects approved; total loans amount to 1,000,000 rubles; 26 new jobs were set up; 7 dependents kept by the young entrepreneurs and their employees received support.

The participants of Supervisory Boardon the 29th of June: Natalia Zubova, Deputy Mayor of Vladivostok, Alexander Logunov, Acting Head of the Youth Administration of Primorsky Krai, Igor Boryakov, Branch Manager of MARITIME Bank OJSC, Svetlana Bazhenova, YBR Project Coordinator in Vladivostok, Irina Chaika, Director, Credit Uni on Association in Primorsky Krai, Tatiana Peshkova, Manager, Youth Administration of Vladivostok, Boris Tkachenko, Head of the IBLF Branch Office in Russia, YBR Programme Manager.

In the course of Supervisory Board meeting, the results of YBR performance in Vladivostok were described and the prospects for the regional development determined. Following Supervisory Board meeting the same day, Selection Panel took place where five young entrepreneurs defended their business plans.

The meeting of Sel ection Panel was moderated by its chairwoman Irina Chaika, Director, Credit Union Association in Primosrki Krai. The experts have approved two projects: the company on CD dubbing, imprinting and packaging; and personal, office and dacha (country house) moves, including corresponding loading and package services and provision of trucks. The total sum of granted loans will be 300,000 rubles. 9 new jobs will be created, 4 dependants will receive support.

On the 30th of June, as part of YBR Programme, the first two seminars on mentoring were held, chaired by Boris Tkachenko. The young people are offered assistance by individual mentors, consultations and training on various business issues, in addition to financial support, which is the principal distinctive feature of the programme in comparison with other existing programmes.

The first seminar was attended by young entrepreneurs whose business plans had been approved. Agenda included discussion of the concept of mentoring, young people expressed their expectations on the future interaction with mentors and discussed key issues for the first meeting. They were provided with information materials, that they could use in their future work, write down important ideas and information on interaction with their mentors, and also regularly update their knowledge obtained at the seminar.

The second seminar was attended by the mentors themselves. Acting entrepreneurs with more than 10-year experience in business became the mentors on the Programme. The participants discussed mentors’ tasks and mentors’ expectations from interaction with young entrepreneurs, completed exercises specially prepared to help determine mentor’s style of work. Irina Lindberg, representative of US Agency for International Development (USAID) in the Far East attended the seminar.

The Programme is being implemented in Vladivostok since November 2010, by International Business Leaders Forum (IBLF) in cooperation with FESCO Shipping Group, MARITIME Bank, SABMiller RUS, Association of Credit Unions of Primorsky Krai, the Far-Eastern Centre for the Promotion of Civic Initiatives and Social Partnership, Pacific Centre of Credit Union Development, and is supported by The Prince’s Youth Business International (YBI), US Agency for International Development (USAID), UK non-for-profit non-governmental organization OXFAM.
