First case of legal corporate volunteering in Youth Business Russia

Legal seminar for young entrepreneurs in the framework of “Youth Business Russia” (YBR), the programme for support and development of youth entrepreneurship in Kaluga Region, was held on 11 February 2011, at Government House of Kaluga Region. International law firm Hogan Lovells acted as YBR partner at the seminar, and the lawyers shared their professional knowledge with the beginners. It is the first case of legal corporate volunteering in YBR programme.

The task of the seminar was to acknowledge the participants with key legal aspects in small business. Together with young entrepreneurs and YBR participants, the seminar was attended by the representatives of partner companies. In his opening speech, Michael Pugh, Partner, Hogan Lovells, told the participants about his company’s activities and introduced his colleagues, lawyers. All young entrepreneurs also made their brief presentations.

The seminar was run in an informal and friendly way in “question-answer” mode. Each participant could ask the lawyers the most vital questions. The young entrepreneurs felt at ease, and communicated in a lively and relaxed manner with “senior colleagues”, some of whom could however have been among the participants of youth business programme themselves, taking into account their age.

At closing of the event, all participants wished for such meetings to be more often and longer. Ahead of the next seminar, Michael Pugh suggested that an online consulting should be set up, main point of which would be to provide all participants of the programme, who want to communicate with the lawyers by correspondence, with the opportunity to send their questions to programme representatives, for them to forwards the questions to Hogan Lovells lawyers.
