SOS Mentoring II Webinar 5 “Mentors’ expectations, assumptions and stereotypes”

On the 16th of June, the Mentoring Institute and Youth Business Russia held the fifth webinar for mentors in the frame of the global initiative SOS MENTORING II.


The subject of the webinar – ‘Mentors’ expectations, assumptions and stereotypes’.

The webinar was conducted by Boris Tkachenko and Irina Gorelova.


The participants of the webinar:

✔️ Considered the key mentors’ expectations, doubts and disappointments

✔️ Discussed how to save nerves and face and escape disappointment if the mentoring relationships did not work out (were not continued / terminated in a short time)

✔️ Mentors teamed in small groups discussed:

- How mentors felt and what they did when facing unmet expectations or disagreeable behaviour of mentees.

- Behaviour patterns that can be leveraged to avoid or manage such situations.


To visualize such situations and to find solutions, the participants studied the case of Ekaterina Sochivka, a mentor from Khanty-Mansiysk.


The next webinar on mentoring will be held on the 21st of July at 12:00 pm Moscow time. It will be also dedicated to the most common situations and challenges facing mentors in the course of mentoring relationships and will be conducted in the format of a case study of one of the mentors.


SOS MENTORING II initiative is being implemented by Youth Business International (YBI), an entrepreneurship support network operating in 56 countries. The languages of the event are English, Spanish and Russian.

The adapted Russian version of SOS MENTORING II global initiate to support active and potential mentors in entrepreneurship and programme coordinators on mentoring in Russia, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Mongolia is being implemented by Youth Business Russian programme and the Mentoring Institute.
